SOPAC Member Countries


SOPAC Includes 21 Member countries in the South Pacific. Therefore SOPAC works in the Exclusive Economical Zones (EEZ) of these 20 member countries.

The members of SOPAC are governments of Pacific independent states or self-governing island countries whose applications for membership were approved by the SOPAC Governing Council.

The founding members are: Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji Islands, Guam, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Since the founding of the Commission in 1990, the governments of Niue, Nauru and Palau joined.

Associate members are local administrations of non-self governing territories of the Pacific and these are currently: American Samoa, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Tokelau.
